I am excited to announce that Fiji Footwear Solutions is now providing all our services in Fiji. 

My name is Eriki Male, and I am a qualified Dutch Pedorthist. I was born in Suvavou village, but completed my studies and training in the Netherlands, Europe.  I studied the Dutch language at Utrecht University and once fluent went on to study Pedorthics at the Dutch Health Tec Academy. Not only did this study give me the theoretical background needed to be a good pedorthist, but it also taught me all the ins and outs working as a pedorthist. I ran daily consulting hours as a pedorthist and worked alongside GP's and physiotherapists in nursing homes. I was part of multi disciplinary teams across major hospitals in the Netherlands alongside surgeons and other medical specialists, involved with the care for diabetics. 

I run my own pedorthic business in Perth, Australia. My goal is for all Fijians to profit from my skills and knowledge and help them  stay mobile for as long possible. I, Eriki, am the first and only pedorthist opening up in Fiji.

Orthotics or orthoses are inlays that you insert in your shoes. Orthotics are mostly used to treat foot problems like having flat feet, a high arch, fascitis plantaris (heel spur /heel pain), metatarsalgia (pain of the front foot), morton's neuroma (nerve pain of the front foot) and other problems. Orthotics can also be used for simple comfort, serving as a soft cushion for your feet.

We can modify your existing footwear in different ways. Modifications to footwear can be done to correct posture, make footwear better fit your feet or to give you more support. Modifications will allow you to keep the shoes you have, but adjusted to possible changes in your feet, lifestyle, well-being or requirements of footwear.

Foot drop occurs mostly due to nerve injury. If you suffer from foot drop, you require an Ankle and Foot Orthosis (AFO), simply said a brace that will hold your foot in the right position by stabilizing your foot and ankle.

 All feet comes in different shapes and sizes. Foot problems occur because of different causes and so require different solutions. There are many ways to deal with a problem from a change to your existing shoes, orthotics or a pair of custom made shoes. Together we will define the problems, explain all the different solutions and offer you the best one accordingly.

Feet are complicated structures, 26 bones, 33 joints and more than a 100 muscles, ligaments and tendons. Your feet are your foundation, every other part of your body rests on your feet. That lower backpain? Worth taking a look at your feet. It is a complex system and not a subject that you can learn in a short course. We are unique as we combine years of European study and knowledge with Australian practical know-how in one company. This enables us to look at an issue from different perspectives and find the best possible way to help you.

According to  Fijian Ministry of Health & Medical Services Diabetes is widespread in Fiji and is still increasing. 30% of the Fijian population suffers from diabetes, that is almost 1 in every 3 Fijians. One of the main complications of having diabetes is the occurence of foot problems. If these foot problems are not treated on time, amputation might be the only option.  Prevention is better than cure. Besides proper footcare it is important to wear appropriate footwear that gives your feet the right protection and support. We are specialised in 100 % custom made orthotics and footwear.
